Alright. I got long hair. It is what happens when you don't get a hair(s)cut since at least early July '08. But that will change soon. I'll be getting it shaved. And you guys are invited to participate.

St. Baldrick's is wonderful charity that does work for children with cancer. And I am happy and proud to support them.

You can visit my "shavee" page here: Tyler's noggin

Yep, at least six inches of hair....down to fuzzy.

Thanks for your support.

My employer, Claddagh Irish Pub is sponsoring this event locally at our Newport location. It will be held from noon til 4pm on Sunday March 15th. We will have a silent auction as well.

Picture taking is welcome. And I hope to see lots of you there.

David Anthony Maselli 1973- 2009 [Feb. 1st, 2009|01:48 pm]
three in... by you.

David is in the middle, flanked by Bill on the left and Jason on the right.

On Saturday January 24, between the hours of nine AM and 11 AM, my friend of 21 years passed away from a sudden pulmonary embolism. To say it has come as a shock is putting it very mildly.

I am a person that honours, loves, and respects knowledge in all forms. I love to learn, and I enjoy sharing what I know with everyone. David was my teacher as well as being a close friend. He possessed a much more patient approach to the variety of subjects available in the world. I knew that any concept I learned would have to be tight to share with him, cause he would fill in the blanks. It made me happy to see his face brighten when I caught him by surprise. His intellect had integrity. It had a life of it's own. And it hurts beyond reckoning to acknowledge that this gnosis has no more a wellspring in him.

On Friday January 31, with close friends and family; his mother, father, extended relations, and wife, we did lay a son, a husband, a cousin, an uncle, a nephew, and a dear friend to rest.

You will be sorely missed Dave, and I will look for you in all the corners of the world.

Did you know [Nov. 5th, 2008|01:19 am]
Joe the Veep *snerk* won tonite as both VP and as a US Senator for Deleware? And.....that state's Democratic Gov has the duty to appoint to that seat should Biden decide to assume the office of VP come January?

But it gets more interesting, because the votes are not all in yet. It look like the Democrats will fail to get to the lock, stock, and filibuster proof senate they wanted. His position as pro-tempre of the Senate has become so very interesting. Yes, he breaks ties, but he also decides moves the Whip's around. Seeing as how Majority Lead Reid is hell bent for leather the past two years, we could be seeing some more sea-changes in the coming four years.

And from the other side... [Nov. 4th, 2008|11:26 pm]
John McCain's concession speech should not be a footnote to the history making moment witnessed tonite. It should very much be part of the history, for without it, the endnotes of this moment would not be as significant.

Thank You, Senator. Thank you very much.

As my own footnote to this; the man fought himself, fought his own party, and even had odds with his running mate. At this writing the popular vote shows about 3 million votes in the President-Elects favour.

and still counting... [Nov. 4th, 2008|11:07 pm]
284 projected Electoral Votes for Obama.

And now the work truly begins. We still have major issues ahead of us. Major Issues.

And he falters, with dignity.

It's toxic. I have said many things about politicians before. But I try to remain, at heart, if not in mouth, decent about it. I'm sure that Palin and McCain are pretty cool people, all things considered. I vehemently oppose both their political stances and some of their morality.

But, this is the moment that changed the face of the Race. When McCain gets booed by his own people for suggesting in a most dignified manner, that his opponent is a decent man, what else can you say.

When you have to tell one of your supporters that she can trust your opponent (who says the word Arab, like we would hear the word "nigger"), what other direction can you go.

By the way, Fox has made no mention of this on their website, and Countdown is making it the main story.

Fox and MSNBC are happy to report about the now assured corruption of Palin, thou.

It ain't over yet. Won't be til that very very tense day coming up in November. But this is the emotional downhill side of the McCain campaign.

Writer's Block: The Beatles [Oct. 10th, 2008|08:11 pm]

In their heyday, The Beatles were the center of the pop universe. Many groups have been hailed as the next Beatles, but does pop music even have a center anymore? Who represents the core of pop music to you?

Sometimes I need music too say something too me.

So I will take JoCo as an example.

"I Crush Everything", is upon a first few listens, a song of regret. And it can be deeply personal. What human being hasn't felt something similar to what the singer is saying? Even the lines about dolphins, and pretty white ships seems to be something along the lines of a metaphorical disconnect to things pure and free. Until you get to the part about, "/and I hate my beak"

It's about a giant squid.

This achingly personal song about regret isn't about human beings at all. It's about a giant squid, with intelligence, not being able to go back to be an animal.

In that case it becomes all to human, doesn't it?

RE:Your Brains is everything it says it is. It's a story told in song. With little to any deep levels.

And they are both great songs.

And this is without touching the Mad Scientist Songs of Unrequited Love; Skullcrusher Mountain, and The Future Soon. Or even the geeky on it's sleeve songs, That Spells DNA, or Mandlebrot Set.

I was singing another great JoCo song not to recently while at work, First of May.
And even thou I think that song would have great mainstream appeal, a co-worker...a norm...asked me, "You like that weird stuff, don't ya?".

I explained with my own question, "Isn't it weirder to listen too the same prepackaged music year in, year out? Aren't you tired of that?"

Pop Music? That animal is mercury...

Me and NW Smith [Oct. 5th, 2008|10:01 pm]

Me and NW Smith, originally uploaded by skylion.

Just got this book Saturday. I posted about it the other day. It's amazing to find such great new inspiration from a work over 70 years old. I'm only two short stories in so far, and I am feeling horrible that this is already all that there is of this character.

Gonna have to read more Space Western Pulp. Or make it.

So, [Sep. 30th, 2008|11:08 pm]

[Current Music |Still Alive Portal]

So, there I was, last week. I was thinking about my Freeport Savage Worlds game. Now, when I get stuck in a rut, either while actively writing, or while going thru my imagination only pre-writing phase, I typically jump over to read or try to work on something else. There was a few flaws in my initial plans in trying to link some stuff up between characters and game world.

So, it rarely works, and the thing I'm stuck on typically gets ejected and put into my mental pack rat's nest. After that, I just listen too tunes and relax. But, I often come up with completely new things to go over anyway, such is as such is.

So, in working on the Freeport stuff, I decided I would try to get as much use out of the Pirates of the Spanish Main RPG, and out of 50 Fathoms as well. I bought em, and it seemed a shame at least some of it isn't being used. So like some eggs, they get folded into the recipe.

So, I got Slipstream. And I also got Savage Worlds of Solomon Kane, last year. Neither of them have been used. And I thought, hey, can I mash up these two heavy Pulp games.

So, I'm trying to think about this possible game world; how I would like to do something like Firefly, only with aliens. I mean, why not?

So, I go about wikitrolling, looking up Pulp writers to try to mine for story ideas, and I come across one C.L. Moore. Never heard of this writer. So in looking over her entry I fall in love. And if that wasn't enough, I find her most famous character, one Northwest Smith, space cowboy. Ye-mofo-ha. And in reading over that entry, he does sound like a gangster of love.

So, I try to find anything I can grab online. I finally nab the Shambleau story while trolling Usenet. Now, I am hooked.

So, her complete collection of Southwest Smith stories are available from Paizo Book Ordered.

So, don't you love it when something like that just drops into your lap?

But, I don't want too worry my players. Freeport is back on my mind, and in truth it never left. I just can't seem to keep only one burner going.

I've recently come to the the conclusion that I rather don't like writing blow by blow accounts of my life in a journal. In fact, when I look back, I never really have. Most of the hand written journals I've kept have been more "storehouses" of ideas, and snapshots of feelings. This is no surprise, since I started keeping them when I hit twenty, and was encouraged to do so at the request of a psychologist. The point was never to keep a journal, it was to order what was, at one point, random thoughts.

So we come to blogging. At the beginning of it, it was a way to keep up with distant friends, and too perhaps find new ones. As blogging also became a social tool for many, I was forced to come to another conclusion. I am not, regularly, a social person. So the social networking aspect has little to no appeal for me. I will subscribe to communities here on LJ. And I do read them regularly and contribute to them when the whim/fancy/need takes me.

I rarely feel the whim/need/fancy to do so in my own journal. Honestly, I've gotten away from keeping paper journals...they did their job. I find that replacing it with an eJournal, once the job of a journal was not longer a going concern, not very necessary.

But, time does pass and I do feel the need to perhaps share my thoughts with my online and reallife friends that subscribe to this "feed".

So, in no particular order, behind the cut cause it's gonna be long.
